In view of the demands of several institutions, the Ministry of Home Affairs has finally allowed the movement of motorcycles up to 350 cc (engine capacity) on the country's roads. For so long there was no opportunity to release motorcycles above 165 cc in the country.
FH Ansari, managing director of ACI Motors, the distributor and manufacturing partner of Yamaha motorcycles in Bangladesh, confirmed that the Ministry of Home Affairs had given this permission on Thursday. The ministry has allowed motorcycles up to 350 cc in the country. However, such motorcycles cannot be imported in complete condition. It can only be imported from abroad in disassembled condition (CKD) and marketed in domestic factories.
Biplab Kumar Roy, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TVS Auto Bangladesh, the manufacturer and marketer of TVS brand motorcycles, confirmed yesterday's decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs.That 500 cc motorcycles were allowed to be exported from Bangladesh. On the other hand, although the import policy allowed the import of 500 cc parts, it was not allowed to ply such motorcycles on the road.
In a meeting chaired by the Home Minister yesterday, the Ministry of Home Affairs has allowed motorcycles up to 350 cc on the country's roads. Ifad Autos is setting up a factory in Bangabandhu Shilpanagar located in Mirsrai, Chittagong to bring the UK's traditional motorcycle brand Royal Enfield to the Bangladesh market. However, there was uncertainty as to when the Royal Enfield 350 cc bike would come due to the lack of permission for the movement of more cc motorcycles. After the decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the people concerned in this sector said that it was a scam.
